The City of Dubuque in partnership with the University of Iowa's IOWA INITIATIVE FOR SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES held its first of a series of public input and feedback sessions examining South Port’s future land use on October 25, 2012 at the Grand River Center. Graduate students from the University of Iowa's School of Urban & Regional Planning gave a presentation about development differences between the North Port and the South Port, and shared what other cities have done to redevelop their ports. People in attendance were then divided into small group input sessions. Following the input sessions, each group gave short presentations to all that were in attendance. After the presentations, a poll of presented ideas where compiled.
The students conducted an online survey in January 2013 to collect broader public input on the preferred land uses for the South Port. The students used the survey data to create multiple alternatives for redevelopment.
The public is invited to attend and participate in feedback session on the redevelopment of the South Port. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Grand River Center, 500 Bell Street. Sandwiches and beverages will be provided.
This public feedback session is a continuation of a public brainstorming session held in October 2012. At the feedback session, the students will show the survey results and ask the public to choose their top alternatives. Students’ design plans consider a variety of different land uses based on public input, feasibility analysis, and potential demand. The top alternatives chosen by the public, along with the students’ evaluation, will be presented to the Dubuque City Council on May 6, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, Historic Federal Building, 350 W. 6th Street.
