Ben Pierce -  Cape Girardeau, Missouri

Artist's statement

is a variation and continuation of a series that I have been working on called the “Balance Series”. The focus for this series is the viewer and how they are able to view the sculpture and look through the oculus. The idea was to create a sculpture that stands out. I achieved this through the illusion that the sculpture is leaning or appearing unbalanced. This unnatural form captures the viewers’ attention, allowing them to look through the oculus and see something in their own community which they may have otherwise overlooked.
