  1. Community Wide Book Drive

    January 20, 8:00 AM - February 20, 8:00 AM

    VISTAs with the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading will be hosting a community-wide book drive between Jan. 20 and Feb. 20 to honor MLK Jr. and Dr. Seuss! They will be collecting new and gently used books for ALL ages at locations throughout Dubuque and urge everyone to give books. . Books will be delivered directly to families who do not have books in their home. Frederick Douglass said it best, when he stated, "Once you learn to read, you will be forever free!" We hope to empower each family member and give them hope through sharing the joy of reading and owning books. Human Rights

  1. Free Financial Literacy Workshops

    January 19, 6:00 PM - February 23, 7:00 PM @ Multicultural Family Center

    This six-week course is part of the City of Dubuque Human Rights Department; Operation: New View; Project Concern, and Circles Initiative financial literacy education program. The sessions are held on Monday evenings, January 17 through February 23.

  1. "Story Times" at the Kennedy Mall during 2015 Book Drive

    January 31, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ 555 John F. Kennedy Road

    In conjunction with the Book Drive, AmeriCorps VISTAs, along with the Dubuque Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, are hosting story times at the Kennedy Mall every Tuesday and Saturday through February 17th. Community members will be reading favorite stories and sharing their love for reading and learning at the Kennedy Mall Play Area on Tuesdays at 10:30 am and 5:30 pm. Also, join VISTAs on Saturdays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. for stories and an activity.

  2. 2015 Neighborhood Recreation Open Gym Program

    January 31, 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM @ 605 Lincoln Avenue / 1151 White Street

    The Leisure Services Department announces FREE open gymnasium programs at Audubon Elementary School (605 Lincoln Avenue) and Prescott Elementary School (1151 White Street) through March 7th. Please see below for times on Saturday afternoon/evening: GRADES 3 THRU 5: (Organized activities planned which may include games, basketball, kickball, dodgeball, crafts and more!) Saturdays, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Audubon. GRADES 6 THRU 8: (Open gym play available.) Saturdays, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Audubon. Saturdays, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Prescott. HIGH SCHOOL THRU ADULT: (Open gym play available.) Saturdays, 7:45 to 9:00 p.m. at Prescott.
