Cable Company Changes
On or about May 1, 2014, Mediacom will be implementing a charge of $5 per month for customers who rent a DVR box but choose to cancel their DVR service without returning their DVR box.  At the same time, they will be "standardizing the Electronic Reactivation of Account and Electronic Change of Service Fees at rates of $2 companywide."  Read Mediacom's letter.
Mediacom made some rate adjustments regarding installation fees that went into effect in February 2014.  Read about those adjustments here.

Mediacom's latest rate change went into effect about February 1, 2014, at which time they began including the City franchise fees and public, educational, and governmental (PEG) equipment fees as a separate line item on the bill statements sent to subscribers.  The rate changes are listed below:2014 Mediacom Rate Changes

The franchise fee is paid because Mediacom must occupy the public right-of-way in order to offer its service. Mediacom pays no franchise fee for revenue it receives from its Internet or phone services.

As of August 30, 2013,
Mediacom has added Cyclone TV, a channel devoted to Iowa State University.  It's part of the Family Cable tier and can be found at channel 165 or digital 57.2.  It's also available in HD on channel 698.

As of June 25, 2013,
Mediacom has moved some of its existing channels to new channel numbers.  WGN America is now on broadcast basic channel 17.  KFXB (CTN 40) is now on broadcast basic channel 13.

Mediacom has moved Dubuque's five public, educational, and government (PEG) access channels to new digital subchannels.  This change will only affect customers who connect their digital televisions directly to the cable without using a Mediacom converter box or digital adapter.  The new channel numbers are indicated below:

People who tune to the digital channels may need to re-scan their televisions in order to pick up the new channels.  Customers who watch these channels using a Mediacom converter box or digital adapter will see no change and continue to use the Cable Box Channel Numbers to view these channels.
