The Economic Development Department uses GIS to quickly identify potential areas for development within and around the City limits. The GIS allows staff to quickly identify if a desired area fits the needs of the developer, be it certain acreage, accessibility to City infrastructure, or zoning.

Other departments within the City are beginning to realize the advantage of using GIS as a matter of their daily functions. The majority of the data maintained within the City has a geographic component, and while data can be viewed in a database, often times it is more easily understood when viewed on a map.
