The City of Dubuque's 2011-2012 Art on the River public temporary art exhibit is located along the Riverwalk in the Port of Dubuque. Stroll the picturesque walkway near the Mississippi and view eleven pieces of public art that will have you and your family talking, smiling and taking pictures. In its sixth year, the temporary public art exhibit drew 70 entries from 39 artists in 12 different states and one foreign country. The exhibit will be on display through June 2012. The exhibit is free, can be viewed sunrise to sunset year-round, and is accessible. |

During the course of the year, special events are held to promote the enjoyment and understanding of public art. Each piece is for sale but must remain part of the Art on the River display for the entire year. The City functions as a gallery and will take a commission on each sale to fund future exhibitions. For sales information, contact the Arts and Cultural Affiars Coordinator by email or by calling 563.589.4110.
The City Council approved the creation of the Art on the River outdoor sculpture project In November 2005, and approved a budget of $300,000 over the next 10 years for this innovative initiative.
Art on the River is coordinated by a sub-committee of the City's Arts and Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission and includes representatives from the Dubuque Museum of Art, local artists, educators, and City staff.
