Plastic Bags

As part of the Resource Management Sustainability Principle, City staff are available to assist in public education efforts related to the reduction of single-use plastic bag use. In 2011, the City Council adopted goals that focused on voluntary reduction of single-use bags through retailer engagement and public education.

A customizable toolkit is available for retailers interested in reducing the use of single-use plastic bags. The toolkit includes:
  • BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) window clings in multiple sizes
  • BYOB graphic files to customize for your business's use
  • Employee training video, emphasizing strategies like asking "do you need a bag today?", to raise awareness and reduce use of single-use bags by customers.

Access to data regarding single-use bags is helpful in tracking community-wide progress on this topic. A voluntary reporting form is also available for businesses who would like to share their anonymous data with the City.

For more information on these or other available resources, please contact the Sustainable Community Coordinator.
