Roy Elkins was born and raised in Michigan where he began his career as a musician. He was then recruited by ENSONIQ Corporation and moved to Washington, D.C. where he directed the company's dealer training program, traveled all over the world and managed several initiatives in the company including Training, Media Production, Marketing and Artist Relations. Roy then joined Sonic Foundry in 1997 as Vice President of Sales & Marketing, a music software and Internet media services company based in Madison, Wisconsin. Under his direction, the company grew from $1 million to $20 million mark in just two-and-a-half years.
In September of 1999 Roy founded Broadjam which now has over 180,000 musician members world wide. Broadjam's consulting group has indexed the works of Gershwin, Usher, Green Day, India.Arie, Madonna and Led Zeppelin. It's past and present customer list includes ASCAP, Academy of Country Music, Warner Chappell, Warner Music Group, Yamaha, and many others. In 2009, Broadjam was recognized as Wisconsin Entrepreneur of the Year by Marian University. In 2010, the prestigious Wisconsin Companies to Watch award was presented to Broadjam by the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Network, Wisconsin DOC and the Division of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (DEED) at the UW-Extension.
In June of 2017, Roy launched the 1st Annual Between The Waves Madison Music Festival and Conference. The festival featured 55 bands on 6 stages including a youth, metal, hip hop and singer songwriter showcases. The conference featured many speakers including Grammy Winning Producer Butch Vig, Platinum metal artist Kip Winger, Jazz great Ben Sidran and legendary manager David Spero (Joe Walsh, Kenny Loggins.) Approximately 200 artists attended the conference and 1,000 attended the festival.
Roy maintains a database of over 5,000 music industry contacts throughout the music industry. He is an accomplished musician and songwriter who is versed in both artistry and the business aspects of the music industry. Roy has served on numerous boards in the Madison area including Wisconsin Foundation for School, Music, Milwaukee Area Technical College – Music School, Madison Media Institute, Minneapolis Media Institute and the MIDI Manufacturers Association. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Madison Area Music Association, whose mission is to encourage the musical development of local children.
