2020 Census

The City of Dubuque is partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau to assure that Dubuque residents are counted in the upcoming 2020 Census. The census is a count of of every person living within the United States. Census data helps determine how more than $600 billion in federal funding is spent on things like infrastructure, health care, and education in communities like ours. The City is committed to helping inform residents, businesses, and partners on the importance of a complete and accurate completion of the census to make sure that Dubuque counts.

Participating In The Census Is Easier Than Ever

By April 1, 2020, every household will have received an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. No matter how you respond, it’s easy, safe, and confidential to respond to the census. 

  • Online: For the first time the census can be completed at 2020census.gov via computer or smart phone.
  • By phone: If you prefer, call to complete the census by phone. 
  • By mail: If a household does not respond online or by phone they will receive a paper copy in the mail.   

By law, your information cannot be shared with law enforcement, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, or the Internal Revenue Service.
