Lifeguard Certification Course

March 27-28 or April 17-18

9 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the Dubuque Community Y

Interested in a summer job as a lifeguard? The Lifeguard Certification Course teaches rescue and surveillance, First Aid and CPR/AED, and the other skills you need to work as a lifeguard. Successful completion results in a two-year certification in Lifeguarding. To be eligible, you must be at least 15 years of age and pass certain swimming requirements. Students must be present each day of training, with no exceptions. The course is being held at the Dubuque Community Y. Cost is $180 for Dubuque residents and $216 for non-residents. 

Grab-N-Go at Comiskey Corner

Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9 - 11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.

Do your kids enjoy arts and crafts projects? We’ve got you covered! Come to the Comiskey Building (255 E. 24th St.) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to pick up FREE supplies and project ideas. Instructions will be included in the kit. Miss Susan and Miss Nancy will also post instruction videos on Facebook! Grab-N-Go is free and no registration is required. Just walk up and knock on the door of the Comiskey Building and a project will be handed out to you!

Chair Yoga

April 6 - 27, Tuesdays 9:30-10:15 a.m.

Allison Henderson Building, Upper Level

Come stretch your body in the most relaxed way...from your chair! You’ll get a full-body strength and stretching workout from head to toe in only 45 minutes! Masks are required and social distancing will be maintained. The cost is $20 for Dubuque residents and $24 for non-residents. The registration number is 7000.442.


2021 Adult Athletics

Softball and Volleyball Leagues

Create your own team and join us this summer for our slow-pitch softball and volleyball leagues! The registration deadline for both leagues is April 9, 2021. 


2021 After School Sports

4th and 5th Grade After School Track

April 12 - May 10, Two practices per week for 90 minutes following school dismissal
The students will learn track fundamentals, team concepts, and sportsmanship with an emphasis on participation, fitness, and fun! Each school will receive eight practices of instruction beginning the week of April 12, followed by a City-wide track meet on Monday, May 10 at Dubuque Senior High School's Dalzell Field. Cost is $24 and the deadline to register is Thursday, April 1. The program is free for those who are income-qualified.

Ways to Register

  1. Online Registration
    Online Registration is available 24 hours / day for most Recreation Division classes. We have teamed with the Active Network to provide this service using a valid credit card; a convenience fee will be charged.
  2. Mail-in
    You can mail your registration to Leisure Services, 2200 Bunker Hill Rd., Dubuque, IA 52001.
  3. Fax or E-Mail
    To 563.589.4391 or parkrec@cityofdubuque.org, 24 hours / day using Master Card or Visa.
  4. Walk-in Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at 2200 Bunker Hill Rd.
  5. After Hours Drop-off
    Place your form and payment in a sealed envelope and drop off in the mail slot in the office door

Registration Form

Programs limited to a certain number of participants will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis with Dubuque residents are given preference. You should receive a confirmation receipt within two weeks. 

Payment

Payment must be included with any registration to be accepted.  Fees may be paid by credit card or checks payable to Leisure Services Department.  Credit Card payments may only be made online, in person or by phone.

Financial Assistance

To assist low-income residents, the Leisure Services Department allows individuals or families to register for some Recreation Division programs / classes for free or at a reduced price. Appropriate identification and current benefit card must be available, or an income form will need to be completed. For more information please contact the Leisure Services Department at 563.589.4263.
