City Council Meetings

The Dubuque City Council meets on the first and third Monday of each month in the Council Chambers on the second floor of the Historic Federal Building at 350 W. 6th Street. The meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. and are broadcast live on CityChannel Dubuque, Dubuque’s local government access channel on the Mediacom cable system, and streamed live and archived on this website and on the City's Facebook page. In the event of a holiday, meetings are held on the following Tuesday. Learn how to attend and provide input at a council meeting.

Agenda Items

City Council agenda items are due in the City Clerk’s Office in City Hall by noon on the Wednesday preceding the Council meeting. Copies of the agenda are available after 9 a.m. on the Friday preceding the meeting in the City Clerk’s Office and online. For more information, call the City Clerk’s Office at 563.589.4120. Proclamations meeting the detailed guidelines may also be submitted by the public ahead of a City Council meeting.

Agendas and minutes from City Council meetings are available from the City Clerk and on the Public Documents section of this website.

Finding Your Ward and City Council Representative

Search your address (by using the magnifying glass on any map) to find your ward and City Council representative using this interactive City Council wards map.  The mayor and at-large members represent the whole city, rather than a particular ward.

Please note:  By Iowa state law, county auditors serve as commissioners of elections. For information on voter registration, polling/voting locations, precincts, running for City Council, and all other election information, please contact the Dubuque County Elections Office at 563.589.4457 or visit their webpage. City ward maps should not be used for voting information.

Council-Manager Form of Government

Dubuque operates under the council-manager form of local government, which combines the political leadership of elected officials in the form of a city council, with the managerial experience of an appointed local government manager, the city manager.
