April 24, 2020 -- For Immediate Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa – Sustainable Dubuque has announced that the 2020 Annual Growing Sustainable Communities Conference scheduled for October 20-21, 2020 in Dubuque, IA has been cancelled. The decision comes out of concern for the rapidly changing and unprecedented circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
City of Dubuque Sustainable Community Coordinator Gina Bell said that while the decision was difficult to make, she is certain that it is the right one. “Now more than ever discussions about resiliency, a vigorous local economy and a sustainable environment are vital to a thriving community,” said Bell. “However, the many unknowns and the financial difficulties many municipal and state governments are facing complicate the discussions.” Bell urges participants to focus on the tasks at hand and share their creativity, innovation, education and stories at the 2021 conference.
The 2021 Growing Sustainable Communities Conference will be held October 12-13, 2021 at the Grand River Center in Dubuque, IA. Proposals submitted for the 2020 conference will be forwarded for consideration in 2021. Bell said she hopes to have even more case studies and transformative ways to build sustainable and resilient communities at the 2021 conference.
