Next Phase of Northwest Arterial Project Starts Monday Night, Sept. 19
Resurfacing of the southbound lanes of the Northwest Arterial from John F. Kennedy to just north of Pennsylvania Ave. is now complete.
The next phase of the Northwest Arterial State of Good Repair Project is resurfacing the arterial's southbound lanes from just north of Pennsylvania Ave. to U.S. 20, as well the arterial's northbound lanes from U.S. 20 to the Catfish Creek Bridge.
Milling of the southbound lanes from just north of Pennsylvania Ave. to US 20, as well as the northbound lanes from U.S. 20 to the Catfish Creek Bridge, is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 19. Motorists can expect alternating lane closures. Flaggers will be on site to control and assist traffic. PLEASE NOTE: The contractor plans to mill between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, and Tuesday, Sept. 20.
In addition to milling and resurfacing, four-foot-wide paved shoulders will be added to widen the road. Following the milling, paved shoulder work is expected to begin on Thursday, Sept. 22. Traffic will be maintained with alternating lane closures and work will occur between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Next, the asphalt overlay paving will occur. This is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 26, and is expected to be finished by Wednesday, Oct. 5. As with the milling, traffic will be maintained with alternating lane closures. The contractor will pave between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. PLEASE NOTE: The Pennsylvania Ave. and Chavenelle Rd. intersections will temporarily close for paving. During this time, flaggers will be on site to control and assist traffic.
This phase will complete the work on the southbound lanes. With the exception of a small section of northbound lanes near the John F. Kennedy Rd. intersection the contractor plans to reconstruct yet this year, the remainder of the arterial's northbound lanes, from Catfish Creek to John F. Kennedy Rd. will be completely reconstructed next year, as previously announced.
