Have a blast exploring science! Lava lamp experiments, oil and water science exploration, a magic mile, and more. We will explore and experiment with all sorts of extraordinary science topics. It will be a class that you will not want to miss as we open our minds to new and exciting things. This is a drop-off class.

We're Going on a Bear Hunt
Ages: 2 - 5 yrs.
Fri, March 24   9:30 – 11 a.m.

Have fun going on a bear hunt! We will not only read and execute the actions of the book, but we will also learn about bears, hibernation, and what happens in the spring. This class brings fun into learning and is a class your child will not want to miss! This is a drop-off class.

Spring Has Sprung
Ages: 2 - 5 yrs.
Wed, April 5 & 12  9:30 – 11 a.m. 

All things spring will be explored in this class. Children will learn about insects and bugs, how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, and how life in many forms begins again. The kids will see the world in a whole new way. We will also explore basic gardening with a special surprise to take home and watch grow! This is a drop-off class.

Smart Start

Smart Start
Ages: 3 - 5 yrs.

Are you looking for something new to encourage your child’s learning? At Smart Start, we use games, songs, and hands-on activities to teach letter recognition, listening, and following instructions in a group environment. Curriculum concepts include math, reading, and writing. This is a drop-off class.

Ceramics for Beginners

Weekend Class for Ages 8 - 12


Ceramics for Beginners
Ages: 8 - 12 yrs.
Sat, March 11, 18 & April 1 10 – 11 a.m.

Learn the basic skills and techniques of ceramics. Participants will end with two finished pieces to take home.  Please note: There are three sessions scheduled with the last session designated for pickup.  There will be a one-week break to allow time for firing. All materials will be provided.

after school track

4th & 5th Grade After School Track

Registration Deadline: Friday, March 31

Time: 90 minutes following school dismissal, 2 days per week
Cost: $24 or free for income-qualified
Dates: April 10 - May 8, 2023

After School Sports 4th and 5th Grade Track is an intramural program available at all of the Dubuque public elementary schools. The program meets for 90 minutes following school dismissal two days per week. Any sessions canceled will not be rescheduled. The program concludes with a city-wide track meet on Monday, May 8, at Dubuque Senior High School's Dalzell Field.

Summer Let's Go! Activities Guide


Looking ahead to summer? Us too! We are currently hiring summer staff and putting together a fun and jam-packed schedule of summer youth programs, swim lessons, classes with community partners, and adult athletics! 


The Summer 2023 Let's Go! Activities Guide will be available online on Friday, April 21, at www.cityofdubuque.org/recreation. Registration will open one week later on Friday, April 28. Mark your calendar and follow us on Facebook for all the latest news and announcements!
