Response to Fire in the 2400 block of Central AVE

At 11:06 PM on Monday evening (04/24/23), the Dubuque County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a fire in a single-family home on Central Ave.

The Communications Center dispatched Dubuque Fire for a structure fire response. This response included Engine 501, Engine 503, Engine 506, Ladder 511, Ladder 512, Medic 551, and Command 528. Engine 503 was on the scene within 5 minutes of the initial 911 call. They reported light smoke and a small amount of fire showing in a second-floor window. It was immediately determined that all occupants had self-evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival.

Engine 503 made entry with a hose line and extinguished the fire that was found in the second-floor bathroom. It was determined that the fire had extended into some of the walls adjacent to the bathroom and was also extinguished. The home sustained moderate smoke damage to the second floor and was deemed uninhabitable by the Fire Department Assistant Chief on the scene. The Red Cross was requested to respond to the scene to assist 3 occupants with alternative living arrangements.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the Fire Marshal's office.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters or citizens.
