INCIDENT TYPE: Structure Fire
ADDRESS/LOCATION:2900 block of Central Ave


The Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call on Tuesday, April 25th at 4:17am from a citizen at 2901 Central Avenue reporting a fire inside the building.

The Dubuque Fire Department was dispatched at 4:19am to the scene of the four-story school building under renovation. Initial responding vehicles included 2 fire engines and a command vehicle. A Dubuque Police Officer arrived on scene and reported smoke showing from the exterior of the building, the response was upgraded to include an additional fire engine, 2 ladder trucks and an ambulance for a total of 18 personnel. 

The first unit arrived on scene within 6 minutes of dispatch, established command, conducted a size up and confirmed smoke conditions on the exterior of the building. Initial fire attack crews deployed a hose line to the basement of the building and reported smoke conditions throughout the structure with fire in the basement. Additional companies arrived on the scene and secured a water supply, deployed a backup hose line to the structure, conducted a search of all floors, assisted with the removal of smoke from the building and conducted salvage and overhaul of the building to limit smoke and fire spread. Crews were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes of arrival and remained on the scene for approximately 2 hours completing salvage and overhaul activities. 

The fire is currently being investigated by the Dubuque Fire Marshal’s Office. The Dubuque Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Dubuque Police Department. There were no injuries to civilians or responders reported.
