INCIDENT TYPE: Fire Response

The Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call on Thursday, May 11th at 1:07 pm for a vehicle on fire in an attached garage.
The Dubuque Fire Department was dispatched at 1:08 am to the scene of the single-story single-family home. Initial responding vehicles included 4 fire engines (Engine 501, Engine 502, Engine 503, Engine 505), 2 truck companies (Truck 511, and Truck 512), a medic units (Medic 552) and a command vehicle (Command 528) for a total of 20 personnel. An additional medic unit (Medic 554) was requested to the scene at 1:19 pm and the Assistant Fire Marshal at 1:25 pm.
The first unit arrived on scene within 3 minutes of dispatch, conducted a size up, confirmed an active fire within the garage, and verified all occupants had evacuated from the residence. Engine 502 and Medic 552 deployed hose lines to the garage and began putting water on the fire at 1:15 pm. Crews reported smoke inside the living area of the house. Fire and smoke damage was also reported in the house's attic. One civilian related to the incident was treated on scene and transported via Medic 554 to the hospital for smoke related injuries. Crews continued to overhaul, opening ceilings and walls. Dubuque Fire crews remain on scene at the time of this release.
The incident is under investigation by the Dubuque Fire Department's Assistant Fire Marshal.
