Dubuque to Celebrate National Public Works Week with 'Touch a Truck' Event

In connection with National Public Works Week, Dubuque Mayor Brad Cavanagh has declared May 21-27, 2023, as Public Works Week in Dubuque in recognition of the contributions of public works professionals to the community. 

Public works professionals with the City of Dubuque work in departments that provide clean drinking water, stormwater and sewer management, engineering services, trash and recycling collection, and maintain the city’s street infrastructure, riverfront property and floodwall, landfill, as well as public facilities and grounds. They are, in short, the people who keep our city running by providing services vital to our community’s health, safety, and comfort. 

In celebration, the City’s public works department will host a ‘touch a truck’ event at the Dubuque Farmers’ Market from 7 a.m. to noon this Saturday, May 20. A sanitation truck with automated side-loading technology, new leaf collection truck, and mini-excavator will be located at the corner of 13th Street and Iowa Street for community members to see firsthand. Staff will showcase how the City-issued trash, recycling, and yard waste containers interact with the side-loading technology and answer questions from residents on curbside collection options offered by the City. City collection customers can look at different cart options and request one using the online form.  The Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency will also have a booth at the event and will have information on composting and more.
