This morning the Dubuque Fire Department, as a member of the Dubuque CAER (Community Awareness and Emergency Response) Group participated in a multi-agency hazmat training. The scenario-based training included public and private agencies including Dubuque Fire Hazmat, STARS LLC, Newt Marine, Dubuque County Emergency Management, Jackson County Emergency Management, Artco Transportation, ADM, and Mulgrew Oil. The exercise simulated a chemical release on water. Participants planned and executed the containment and mitigation of a diesel fuel spill on the Mississippi River. Training like this coordinates and prepares public entities and private industry partners to respond in the case of an actual event.
