 INCIDENT TYPE: Structure Fire
ADDRESS/LOCATION: 1691 Main Street

The Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 7:13 PM from a tenant on the first floor of a multi-family residence reporting a fire inside the building with smoke detectors activated. The Dubuque Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 7:14 PM.  Initial responding vehicles included Command 528, Engine 501, Ladder 511, Medic 551, Engine 503, Engine 506, and Truck 512. The response brought 17 firefighters in total on the initial alarm.

The first unit, Command 528, arrived on scene within 2 minutes of dispatch, established command, conducted a size up with nothing showing and directed the initial companies to investigate. Initial fire crews entered the structure and confirmed a grease fire which was extinguished by the occupant.  Crews also reported moderate smoke conditions inside the building.  Firefighters located two residents with injuries which required transport to the hospital. The incident commander upgraded the alarm which added two additional ambulances to the scene to assist. Crews worked to clear the building of smoke and confirmed no further extension within the building.  The fire was determined to be accidental in nature, cooking related. The building was determined to be habitable and all occupants were able to return to their units.

The Dubuque Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Dubuque Police Department. There were no injuries to responders reported.
