The Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call at 4:03am on Tuesday, August 29th from a tenant on the first floor of a multi-family residence. The first unit, Engine 502, arrived on scene within 5 minutes of dispatch, established command, conducted a size up on an 8-unit multi-family building and made entry to investigate. Responding units assisted by deploying a handline to the front of the structure, securing a water supply, and conducting a search of the building for occupants. Initial fire crews confirmed a bathroom fire which was extinguished quickly. Additional crews worked to clear the building of smoke and verified no further extension within the building. The fire was determined to be accidental in nature, caused by a bathroom fan. The building was determined to be habitable, and all occupants were able to return to their units safely. The building had operational smoke detectors which alerted occupants of the fire.
