‘City Life,’ Dubuque’s Course on Local Government, Welcoming Spanish-Speaking Applicants

The City of Dubuque is welcoming applications from residents whose primary language is Spanish for the next session of City Life, Dubuque’s fun, free, and interactive experience of local government.

City Life participants have the opportunity to learn more about City operations and services that make Dubuque a great place to live, work, and play. Through presentations, behind-the-scenes tours, and conversations with neighbors, residents see taxpayer investments at work and are able to share their thoughts. Offering this session in Spanish is an effort by the Office of Shared Prosperity and Neighborhood Support to better engage Dubuque’s Spanish-speaking residents. Applications are due by Friday, Sept. 15 at www.cityofdubuque.org/CityLife.

The City Life program consists of six in-person sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings this spring (Sept. 26 and 28, Oct. 3, 5, 10, and 12) from 6-9 p.m. Dinner is provided and accommodations can be made. The program will be offered again in English in the spring.

“After joining City Life, it was more than clear that Dubuque has a lot to offer residents -- in terms of a career, community, and personal growth. This city has so much to offer and it has been a great experience to learn and get involved with all the current and future projects ahead,” said Nicky Vedia, a recent program participant.

'City Life', el curso de Dubuque sobre gobierno local da la bienvenida a los solicitantes de habla hispana

La ciudad de Dubuque está aceptando solicitudes de residentes cuyo idioma principal es el español para la próxima sesión de “City Life”, una experiencia divertida, gratuita e interactiva del gobierno local de Dubuque.

Los participantes de City Life tendrán la oportunidad de aprender más sobre las operaciones y servicios de la ciudad que hacen de Dubuque un excelente lugar para vivir, trabajar y jugar. A través de presentaciones, recorridos detrás de escena y conversaciones con vecinos, los residentes verán las inversiones de los contribuyentes en acción y podrán compartir sus pensamientos. Ofrecer esta sesión en español es un esfuerzo de la Oficina de Prosperidad Compartida y Apoyo Vecinal para involucrar mejor a los residentes de habla hispana de Dubuque. Las solicitudes deben presentarse antes del viernes 15 de septiembre a www.cityofdubuque.org/CityLife.

El programa City Life consta de seis sesiones presenciales los martes y jueves por la noche este otoño (26 y 28 de septiembre, 3, 5, 10 y 12 de octubre) de 6 a 9 p.m. Se proporcionará la cena y se acomodaciones pueden hacerse si es necesario. El programa se ofrecerá nuevamente en inglés en la primavera.
