Dubuque City Councilwoman Susan Farber has been named one of the new members of the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Intergovernmental Advisory Committee (IAC).
The IAC provides guidance, expertise, and recommendations to the FCC on telecommunications issues impacting local, county, state, and tribal governments. Farber will be one of 30 committee members who represent 20 states plus the District of Columbia. Farber is the only committee member from Iowa.
“These local, county, state, and tribal leaders offer the commission valuable perspectives on how we can work together to connect the American people,” said FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel in her announcement of the committee members. “I thank the committee members for their willingness to serve, and I look forward to their input.”
The IAC is an official advisory committee which was reauthorized by the FCC last year. The committee will make recommendations to the FCC on issues related to increasing deployment and adoption of broadband services. They will also provide input on how FCC rules and policies can be better communicated to the public.
"I am deeply honored to join the FCC’s Intergovernmental Advisory Committee and am eager to contribute to shaping telecommunications policies that benefit communities nationwide,” Councilwoman Farber said. “I look forward to collaborating with fellow members and providing valuable insights from the local level.”
The committee will hold its first meeting on April 18. Each member will serve a two-year term.
Farber has been a member of the Dubuque City Council since March 2021, representing the city’s First Ward.
