Special Mobile Collection Event for Household Hazardous Materials and Electronics Recycling on June 15

The Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency (DMASWA) will host a special mobile collection event for household hazardous materials and electronics recycling on Saturday, June 15.

The event will be held, rain or shine, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the City of Dubuque Municipal Services Center, 925 Kerper Court. Materials will be accepted by appointment only from Dubuque County residents only. Businesses, including non-profits, churches, and farms are not permitted to participate in this event.

Household hazardous materials that will be accepted for recycling include:

• Household cleaners
• Motor oil and oil filters
• Gasoline
• Residential fertilizers and pesticides
• Aerosol cans
• Antifreeze
• Household fluorescent bulbs
• Compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs
• Mercury bulbs
• Halogen bulbs
• Sharps (in rigid, sealed containers)
• Batteries
• Ink/Toner cartridges
• Oil-based paint
• Latex paint

All materials should be delivered in boxes which can be left at the event. Individual material containers larger than five gallons will not be accepted.

Household hazardous materials and most electronics will be accepted from Dubuque County residents at no cost. Some electronic items will have a fee to recycle. Televisions and computer monitors cost $15 each and microwaves cost $10. Credit/debit cards will be the only form of payment accepted for items with fees.

Residents interested in participating must go to www.dmaswa.org/mobileevent to schedule the required appointment and to view the list of acceptable materials. A limited number of appointments will be available. Registration will close no later than Friday, June 14.
