June 14 Dubuque Bear Facts

June 14, 2024

The black bear seen in Dubuque in recent days is still in the city. Residents are urged to avoid any interaction with the bear, for their own safety and the bear's safety.

Iowa DNR wildlife officials are stressing the importance of allowing the bear to make its way out of Dubuque on its own.

Until the bear leaves, residents should remain bear aware and can help by:

  • Removing bird feeders that are within a bear's reach
  • Do not leave pet food outside
  • Do not put garbage containers out until the morning of pick-up (Please do so by 6 a.m.)
  • Do not put meat, fish, or other pungent food scraps in backyard compost piles
