The Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received radio traffic from a Dubuque Police Officer on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 12:48 PM reporting a house on fire with heavy smoke. The Dubuque Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 12:48 PM. Initial responding vehicles included Command 528, Engine 501, Engine 503, Engine 506, Truck 512 and Medic 552. The response brought 14 firefighters in total on the initial alarm.
The first unit, Command 528, arrived on scene within 5 minutes of dispatch reporting a working fire with smoke showing. C528 established a command post. Arriving fire engine 501 conducted a size up reporting smoke on the front porch extending upward. Dubuque Police evacuated three children from the residence. A hose line was stretched and water applied to the fire within two minutes. Knockdown of the fire was reported two minutes later. The porch was overhauled to check for fire extension. All floors of the residence were given an all clear by fire engine 506 with a 17 y/o occupant not located. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Assistant Chief Marshal's office. No fire or smoke extended into the residence, and the residence was deemed habitable. Crews remained on scene for two hours for overhaul and investigation. No occupants were injured and three dogs were unharmed. No injuries to responders were reported.
