INCIDENT TYPE: Residential Structure Fire
ADDRESS/LOCATION: 2297 Francis Street
The Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call on Saturday, December, 2024, at 7:53 PM from a tenant on the first floor of a side-by-side duplex reporting a fire inside off the front porch. The Dubuque Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 7:53 PM. Initial responding vehicles included Command 528, Engine 501, Medic 551, Engine 503, Ladder 511 and Engine 506. The response brought 14 firefighters in total on the initial alarm. An additional ambulance was requested to the scene for an unrelated medical incident.
The first unit, Command 528, arrived on scene within 4 minutes of dispatch, established command, conducted a size up with fire showing inside the front windows. Crews were directed to stretch hose to the front door and prepare for fire attack. Initial fire crews entered the structure and confirmed a fire in the front living room. Crews also reported moderate smoke conditions inside the residence. The occupants had exited and were standing outside. The attack crew reported the fire was knocked down within 3 minutes of arrival. Crews worked to clear the residence of smoke and confirmed no further fire extension. The fire cause is being invesitgated by the Assistant Fire Marshal. The residence was determined to be habitable and free to toxins in the air. All occupants, on both sides of the duplex were able to return to their units. Damage esimtates were less than $2000.
The Dubuque Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Dubuque Police Department. There were no injuries to residents or firefighters.
