INCIDENT TYPE: Residential Structure Fire
ADDRESS/LOCATION: 2233 Jackson Street
The Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 6:54 AM from a tenant reporting smoke and flames coming from the ceiling on the second floor of the apartment. The Dubuque Fire Department was dispatched to the scene within 30 seconds. Initial responding vehicles included Battalion 1, Engine 1, Truck 1, Medic 1, Engine 3, Truck 4, and Engine 6. The response brought 19 firefighters in total for the fire.
Engine 1 arrives on scene within 4 minutes and size up reports smoke from the roof area and began to deploy an attack hose line and assumes command. All occupants were accounted for and it was declared we had an all clear of any victims. Battalion 1 arrives and declares working fire and assumes command from Engine 1. Fire crews entered the structure and found fire in the attic area of the building. Crews extinguished the fire and requested ventilation to assist to clear smoke from the attic area. The attack crew had knock down of the fire after four minutes of arrival. Crews continued to check for hot spots and had to use a saw to cut inspection holes to reveal hidden fires and extinguish any fire that extended into void spaces. The fire was determined to be accidental, the Fire Marshals Office is investigating the cause. The home was determined to be uninhabitable. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents. Losses were estimated at $100,000.
The Dubuque Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Dubuque Police Department. There were no injuries to responders reported.
