Sept. 24, 2018 -- For Immediate Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The City of Dubuque’s Jule Operations and Training Center has received a 2018 Excellence in Energy Efficient Design Award from the American Institute of Architects Iowa Chapter (AIA Iowa). A plaque was awarded during the 2018 AIA Iowa Convention Awards Celebration in Des Moines on Sept. 20.
The Excellence in Energy Efficient Design awards program recognizes outstanding efforts in reducing energy use. Award candidates are selected from projects whose designers participated in the Commercial New Construction program offered by Alliant Energy, Black Hills Energy and MidAmerican Energy Company. The top projects with the highest kBTU savings percentage in Alliant Energy and MidAmerican Energy’s service territory are selected for an award. The Jule Operation and Training Center’s kBTU savings was 49 percent when compared to the Commercial New Construction program baseline.
Construction of The Jule Operations and Training Center, located at 949 Kerper Blvd. in Dubuque, was completed in late 2017. The facility was constructed reusing a City-owned brownfield site (the former City of Dubuque Public Works garage) and was designed to incorporate energy efficiency, water conservation, and a floorplan for improved workflow. The facility provides storage and maintenance space for the city’s Jule public transit buses and serves as the operations and training headquarters for The Jule.
