Candidates for Ward Three City Council Vacancy Must File by Thursday, Aug. 29

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Dubuque residents living in the city’s third ward will have the opportunity to vote for a new city council representative in the November election if candidates file the necessary nomination documents by Thursday.

Following the resignation of Ward Three City Council Representative Kate Larson, effective Aug. 23, the position will be on the city council election ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Residents living in Dubuque’s third ward who wish to file papers for this position will need to do so by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29. To view a city ward map, visit www.cityofdubuque.org/wards.

Candidates for election to city council must be at least 18 years of age, a resident of the city, United States citizen, and have no felony convictions. Candidates who are seeking election from wards must be residents of the ward at the time the nomination petition is filed and at the time of the election.  Candidates are nominated by petition which must include a number of signatures equal to at least two percent of the number of people who voted to fill the same office at the last regular election.  Sixteen signatures of ward three residents are required for the current nomination petition.
