Kroger Named City's Recreation Division Manager
DUBUQUE, Iowa – City of Dubuque Leisure Services Manager Marie Ware has announced the appointment of Dan Kroger as Dubuque’s new recreation division manager. Kroger began his employment with the City on March 13, 2013.
As the City’s recreation division manager, Kroger is responsible for performing administrative, technical and supervisory work in planning, operating and directing the City’s Recreation Division through recreation programs, services and facilities including Flora and Sutton Pools as well as Bunker Hill Golf Course. Kroger will also work with the department’s many partnerships and initiatives.
Ware shared, “Dan’s skills in financial management, risk management, marketing, and facility operations, as well as staff management and training, will serve him well as the leader of the recreation division. He has a strong background in working with sports organizations and schools through his most recent and past positions.”
Kroger comes to Dubuque from Glen Ellyn Park District in Illinois, where he most recently was facility manager for the Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center. This 88,000 square-foot facility is home to a fitness center, multipurpose indoor sport field, basketball courts, climbing wall, batting cages, multipurpose rooms and a multi-lane track. His experience there spanned from concept, to building, to operation of the facility.
“It has truly been a pleasure to meet with the visionary staff from the City of Dubuque. I am truly excited and honored to become of part of the team as well as, for my family, a part of the community,” said Kroger. “After many years of solid leadership within the recreation division, I hope to build on its strong reputation and work with the recreation staff to offer the highest-quality programs, activities and experiences for all residents of Dubuque.”
Kroger holds a bachelor’s degree in leisure studies/recreation management from the University of Illinois-Champaign and is a Certified Park and Recreation Professional. Kroger will follow in the footsteps of Pat Prevenas, who retired last August after many years of dedicated service to the Department.
