Using GIS

Overview
The City of Dubuque began using GIS technology back in the mid-1990s. At that time, the City created and maintained all the GIS data in house for the entire City. Today, the City of Dubuque works closely with Dubuque County to maintain GIS data. Dubuque County provides the City with base GIS data, including parcels and roads.

Departments within the City of Dubuque use this information to create and maintain their own data sets, including water, sewer, and zoning. Several departments and the GIS Coordinator / Analyst work together in maintaining the City of Dubuque's GIS, and providing GIS services to City staff and citizens.
