Fingerprinting

NOTICE

All fingerprinting by the Dubuque Police Department is currently suspended indefinitely due to the Coronavirus / Covid-19 pandemic.  No appointments are being scheduled at this time.

Fingerprinting is available by appointment only on Tuesdays between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. or Wednesdays between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.  Call the Records Division at 563-589-4443 to schedule an appointment.  The cost is $10 for one or two fingerprint cards, and $5 for each additional card, payable by cash, check, or credit/debit card (Discover, Mastercard, Visa only).

Please note before scheduling an appointment:  Fingerprinting is completed using ink.  Fingerprint cards must be bent to complete the process.  The fingerprint cards themselves will not include a "do not fold" notation; such a message would be found on a letter or other information provided by the business, licensing board, etc., that is requesting the person be fingerprinted.  If digitally scanned fingerprints are required and/or cards may not be bent (nursing licenses are one example), schedule the fingerprinting appointment with the Dubuque County Sheriff's Office.  Fingerprint appointments with the DCSO are also scheduled by calling 563-589-4443, but the times and pricing listed above apply only to fingerprinting completed by the Dubuque Police Department.

Persons scheduled to be fingerprinted by the Dubuque Police Department should use the law enforcement center's 855 Central Avenue entrance.  The person being fingerprinted must present a valid government-issued photo ID/DL or passport at the time of the appointment.  Fingerprints will not be taken without such credentials.  Fingerprint cards should be filled out in advance except the signature field; the signature must be witnessed by the fingerprinting officer at the time of the appointment.

Unless a prepaid postage envelope is provided, the person being fingerprinted must take the fingerprint card(s) with them upon completion.
