Police & Fire Youth Camp

Registration for the 2022 camp is closed

Camp dates and times

  • Ages 11-13 : June 20-21, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Ages 14-18 : June 23-24, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. 

There is no fee to register, however, pre-registration is required.  The camp is limited to 45 participants in each age group and will be selected using a lottery system. Residents of the city of Dubuque will be given preference in the event the camp fills up.

Register online or pick up a paper registration form at one of the following locations: 

  • Carnegie-Stout Public Library,  360 W. 11th. St.
  • Fire Headquarters,11 W. 9th St.
  • Dubuque Law Enforcement Center, 770 Iowa St.

Join the Dubuque Police Department and the Dubuque Fire Department for hands-on fun at the 2022 Police and Fire Youth Camp. This FREE two-day camp is for local middle school and high school youth ages 11-18. Camp for ages 11-13 will be held on June 20-21 and ages 14-18 will be held on June 23-24.

PLEASE NOTE: Submitting a registration form does not guarantee admittance to the camp. Due to the large number of interested applicants, the participants admitted to this camp will be determined via a lottery system. Those selected will be notified after registration closes.

2022 Youth Camp Flyer

The camp will be held at the Dubuque County Emergency Responder Training Facility at 14928 Public Safety Way (near the Dubuque County Fairgrounds.) Map available here.

The Police and Fire Youth Camp is a joint effort with the Dubuque Police Department and Dubuque Fire Department. The camp will give Dubuque area youth an opportunity to engage in fun and educational activities with Dubuque Police Officers and Dubuque Fire Fighters while learning some of the skills of each career.

Some of the activities will include: 

  • Rappelling
  • Crime scene investigation
  • Search and rescue
  • Wellness and movement
  • SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) skills
  • Fire extinguisher skills
  • And more!

These activities will be under the supervision and at the instruction of members of the Dubuque Police Department and Dubuque Fire Department. The camp will also give participants an opportunity to learn more about who they are as young leaders, along with meeting different members from the Dubuque Police and Dubuque Fire Department. 

The camp is free and lunch is provided.

Additional Details

Parents/guardians may drop off between 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. each morning and will need to sign a waiver on the first day of camp. Pick-up will be from 4 - 4:30 p.m. each day.
