[ARCHIVED] Brandel Arrested on Upgraded Charge

The charge originally filed on Dwayne T. Brandel 05/03/85 (no permanent address) has been upgraded to Interference w/ Official Acts Causing Serious Injury.

The charge originally filed on Dwayne T. Brandel 05/03/85 (no permanent address) has been upgraded to Interference w/ Official Acts Causing Serious Injury. Brandel was initially arrested on 02/23/12 after he interfered with the warrant arrest of Dennis J. Sharkey 06/14/65 while both were at 3901 Jackson Street in Dubuque. When officers attempted to arrest Brandel (for interfering with Sharkey’s arrest), he physically resisted and continued to do so despite being pepper sprayed. While officers were attempting to gain control of Brandel, he kicked Lt. Pablo Ramirez in the knee, causing serious injury. Brandel was ultimately taken into custody but released later the same day after a $200 bond was posted. The Dubuque County Attorney authorized the upgrade in charges and Brandel was arrested today when he came to the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center seeking a warrant check in order to stay at the Rescue Mission. He is being held in the Dubuque County Jail on a $5000 cash bond or approved surety. Brandel's new charge is a Class D Felony, punishable by up to 5 years incarceration and a fine of $750-$7,500.

As with any criminal case, the charges filed are allegations and any suspect(s) charged are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
