On May 8th, 2012 at 9:05 p.m., Dubuque Police responded to 140 Loras Blvd. #1 on the report of a stabbing. Officers met with alleged victim, Mary C. Padulla, 50, of that address, who reported she had been stabbed by an unknown suspect. Padulla was suffering from a non-life threatening wound to her abdomen, for which she was treated at Finley Hospital and released a short time later.

As part of the investigation, a follow-up interview was conducted with Padulla at the police department on May 10th, 2012. During the interview, Padulla admitted the stab wound was self-inflicted and that her initial report to law enforcement was indeed fabricated.

The investigation was completed and forwarded to the Dubuque County Attorney’s Office for review. Falsely reporting a felony to a public safety entity is a serious misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $315 to $1,875 and up to one year imprisonment.

As with any criminal case, any charges filed are allegations and suspect(s) charged are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
