[ARCHIVED] Police Investigate Overnight Shooting

The Dubuque Police Department is investigating an overnight shooting that left one individual dead.

On Saturday, October 20th, 2012, at 11:51 p.m., Dubuque Police responded to the 2000 block of Jackson on a report of a shooting that just occurred. Upon arrival officers located a juvenile male subject on the ground suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. An additional juvenile male subject was then located in the 2100 block of Washington also suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Both subjects were transported by ambulance to Finley and Mercy Hospitals. The preliminary investigation indicated that both subjects were together with a group of friends when they encountered another group of individuals at a residence in the 2100 block of Jackson. Both groups of individuals left the residence and as they were walking southbound in the 2000 block of Jackson, subjects from the first group shot at the other group, thus wounding the two victims. One subject was treated at Finley for his injuries and held for observation. The other subject transported to Mercy subsequently died in the operating room as a result of his wounds. Names are being withheld at this time pending family notification. No charges have been filed at this time. The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Dubuque Police Department at 589-4415. The Dubuque County Sheriff’s office assisted with the investigation at the scene.
