On November 07, 2012, Scott R. Robinson (dob:12/17/77) was served an outstanding warrant for Suborning Perjury while in the Dubuque County Jail. Robinson is serving a life sentence at the Iowa Department of Corrections Penitentiary in Fort Madison, IA after being convicted of 1st Degree Kidnapping in April 2012. He was returned to Dubuque for court proceedings on a charge of 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse that he was charged with in November, 2011, relating to a separate, different criminal case.
Robinson was charged with suborning perjury after an inmate from the Dubuque County Jail testified in a hearing related to Robinson’s sentencing on his 1st Degree Kidnapping conviction claiming that the victim in Robinson’s kidnapping trial had confided to the inmate that she had lied during the investigation. After the hearing, when interviewed by Investigators with the Dubuque Police Department, the inmate admitted that his testimony during the hearing was made up and that he and Robinson had rehearsed the story. The inmate advised Robinson scripted the inmate’s story on a piece of paper and they would study and rehearse the testimony together. The inmate was also offered a couple thousand dollars by Robinson for his false testimony but never received payment.
Suborning perjury is a class D felony punishable by confinement of up to five years and a fine between $750 and $7,500.
As part of this investigation, Robert and Ann Robinson’s bank records were subpoenaed. They are Robinson’s parents and Investigators did not find any connection between their bank records and the charge of suborning perjury.
As with any criminal case, the charges filed are allegations and any suspect(s) charged are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
