[ARCHIVED] Plugged Pipe Causes Sanitary Sewer Overflow in Dubuque

A plugged sanitary sewer located in the street in the 4800 blk of Chavenelle Rd caused untreated wastewater to flow into the street. The untreated wastewater was contained to the street surface and no untreated wastewater entered the storm sewer system.

A plugged sanitary sewer pipe located in the street in the 4800 block of Chavenelle Road caused untreated wastewater to flow into the street. The untreated wastewater was contained to the street surface and no untreated wastewater entered the storm sewer system.

The City of Dubuque Public Works Department was notified by the public around 9:45 p.m. last night, Wednesday, Jan. 15, of a possible sanitary sewer overflow from a manhole located on Chavenelle Road. Crews were dispatched to the area and were able to remove the blockage from the line and complete clean up the roadway by 11:30 p.m. Additional inspection of the line continues at this time to identify the cause of the blockage.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources cautions people to keep their children and pets away from the posted area for forty-eight (48) hours.
