Dubuque Police have been informed of numerous counterfeit twenty-dollar bills circulating in the community. The bills appear authentic but seem to have a thicker feel in comparison to legitimate currency. They do not pass the counterfeit pen test and also do not have a denomination strip visible inside when held to light. Thus far, two serial numbers have been identified: JB19936678F and JG46657565C, but it is possible that other serial numbers are, or will be, used. Police are asking consumers, businesses and financial institutions to be vigilant for any potentially counterfeit bills when handling currency. Anyone with information or confirmed cases should contact authorities.
