On Wednesday, March 18th, 2015, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Dubuque Police attempted to arrest Matthew J. Burks, 05/12/85, of 1523 Wingate Drive, on a felony Theft warrant issued by Dane County, Wisconsin authorities.

The warrant/charge alleges Burks was in possession of stolen jewelry taken during a burglary to Shamrock Jewelers in Dubuque on September 8th, 2014. When officers attempted to arrest Burks, he fled, leading officers on a foot pursuit. Burks was apprehended nearby in the area of Catfish Creek. In addition to the warrant, Burks was also charged with Public Intoxication and Interference with Official Acts. Burks was processed into the Dubuque County Jail and released today after $10,000 bond was posted for the Theft warrant and signature bonds were authorized on the local charges. The burglary investigation remains ongoing.

As with any criminal case, the charges filed are allegations and any suspects are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
