On March 27th, 2015, at approximately 3:35 p.m., Dubuque Police responded to 2621 Jackson Street to meet with Jamal L. Gray, 18, of that address.
Gray reported he had just been robbed of his money at gunpoint in the alley east of the 2100 block of White Street. As part of the subsequent investigation, surveillance imagery from area traffic cameras was reviewed and revealed numerous inconsistencies in Gray’s report. Ultimately, Gray was interviewed and when confronted with these inconsistencies, admitted to filing the false report. Gray indicated he filed the false report because he was upset after he paid some individuals to purchase marijuana and they did not return with the drug. He also alleged these same individuals often harass him.
This morning, April 9th, 2015, Gray turned himself in at the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center on the “False Report to Public Safety Entity” warrant. Following his initial appearance he was released on a $2,500 signature bond. Filing a false report is a Serious Misdemeanor punishable by a fine between $315 and $1,875, and incarceration up to one year.
As with any criminal case, the charges filed are allegations and any suspects are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
