On Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015, shortly before 9:00 a.m., a Dubuque Police Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Jimmane T. Pittman, 25, of 2161 Garfield Avenue, Dubuque, who the officer knew had a 5-day jail sentence to serve.
The officer attempted to stop Pittman near Menard Court and Crescent Ridge, but he refused to stop and continued on Crescent Ridge toward Cedar Cross Road. The officer continued to pursue the suspect with both emergency lights and siren engaged. Speeds reached approximately 55 miles per hour during the pursuit. Pittman turned north on Cedar Cross Road and continued onto JFK Road, ignoring traffic control signals as he continued to flee. As Pittman turned right (southeast) onto Asbury Road, entering a predominately residential area, the pursuing officers disengaged their lights and siren and increased their distance due to safety concerns for the general public. Utilizing traffic cameras, citizen assistance and an unmarked law enforcement vehicle, officers were able to track Pittman and ultimately relocate his vehicle on Parkway Street, unoccupied. The original pursuing officer then located Pittman walking in the immediate area and attempted to stop him on foot. Pittman fled again and a brief foot pursuit ensued until officers were able to apprehend him in the area of West 3rd and Glen Oak Streets.
In addition to the 5-day jail sentence, Pittman also facing multiple new charges including Eluding, Interference With Official Acts, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) and numerous traffic citations. He was processed into the Dubuque County Jail and held pending his initial court appearance on June 4th.
As with any criminal case, the charges filed are allegations and any suspects are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
