[ARCHIVED] Police Warn of Phone Scam

Dispatch has received several calls today from citizens who reported receiving a scam phone call.

The call is a robo call purporting to be from Alliant Energy. The robo call instructs the recipient to call an 800 number that connects to a spoofed Alliant Energy phone tree. The message threatens the recipient with a service shutdown in 30 minutes if they don’t comply.

If you receive one of these calls hang up. Don’t let the threat of losing power service in this cold weather scare you into giving up personal or financial information.

Alliant Energy has some good information on these types of scams on their website, https://www.alliantenergy.com/CustomerService/ForYourSafety/HowtoSpotaScam.
