[ARCHIVED] Police Focus on "Quality of Life" Issues

While serious and violent criminal behavior remains a top priority for Dubuque Police, this summer will also bring an increased focus on behavior that negatively impacts “quality of life” in the city.

Citizens can expect increased enforcement efforts on noise violations – to include loud mufflers/exhaust systems on ALL vehicles (including motorcycles) – as well as loud music and other noise emanating from vehicles and homes. Police will also make an increased effort to address pedestrians who disregard and impede motor vehicle traffic by not crossing the street in a timely & lawful manner.

The above issues are the source of numerous citizen complaints, especially during the summer months. Dubuque Police base the allocation of resources on where and what the complaints/problems are, and the above mentioned issues are persistent problems that warrant increased enforcement effort. By addressing these issues, police hope to not only improve the quality of life in Dubuque, but deter the more serious criminal behavior that can arise from a lack of enforcement attention to that which is less serious.
