[ARCHIVED] Applications Being Accepted for the 15th Annual Citizen's Police Academy

The Dubuque Police Department will be accepting applications from Dubuque residents who wish to participate in the 15th session of the Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA).

The purpose of this program is to promote a better understanding between citizens and the police. The CPA is not designed to make the participants certified police officers. All classes are taught by law enforcement professionals and other members of the Criminal Justice System. Classroom time includes, but is not limited to, presentations on arrest procedure, search & seizure, use of force, laws & policies, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, drug enforcement, OWI, officer safety, and prevention programs.

The Police Department will begin accepting applications immediately, with an application deadline of January 15, 2011. Applications are available at the Police Department (770 Iowa St.), or online at www.cityofdubuque.org/police.


Requirements for consideration & participation:

*Resident of the City of Dubuque
*At least 18 years of age
*No felony convictions
*No significant arrest history


Class schedule is as follows:

*Twelve sessions starting February 9, 2011 and running through April 27, 2011
*Sessions begin at 6:00 p.m. and conclude at 9:00 p.m.
*Sessions will be held on Wednesday evenings, usually at the DLEC

Two additional activities will include:

*a ride-along with a Patrol Officer (mandatory)
*a firearms session to be held on a Saturday morning (optional)

Class size is limited. Those selected should commit to attending all 12 sessions.
