[ARCHIVED] Pawn Shop Owner Arrested on Multiple Charges

On May 9th, 2012, Dubuque Police arrested the owner of Dubuque Pawn (2160 Central Ave.), Michael H. Vandermillen, 39, of 811 Hawkeye Heights, Dubuque, on a charge of Ongoing Criminal Conduct and Possession of a Firearm as a Felon.

On May 9th, 2012, Dubuque Police arrested the owner of Dubuque Pawn (2160 Central Ave.), Michael H. Vandermillen, 39, of 811 Hawkeye Heights, Dubuque, on a charge of Ongoing Criminal Conduct and Possession of a Firearm as a Felon. He was also served four arrest warrants for Controlled Substance Violations (2) & Assault Causing Bodily Injury (2). The most recent charges resulted from a long term and still ongoing investigation initiated in May 2011 pertaining to a variety of alleged criminal activity involving Vandermillen and Dubuque Pawn. This criminal activity included theft, burglary, assault, prostitution, controlled substance violations, firearm violations and fraudulent practices. During Vandermillen’s arrest, a search warrant was executed at both 2160 & 2162 Central Ave. (the latter address also being associated with Vandermillen). Items of evidentiary value seized included a firearm, controlled substances and stolen property.

As it pertains to this investigation, Ongoing Criminal Conduct is a Class B Felony, punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Possession of a Firearm as a Felon is a Class D Felony, punishable by a fine of $750 to $7500, and imprisonment up to 5 years. Vandermillen is being held in the Dubuque County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.

As with any criminal case, the charges filed are allegations and any suspect(s) charged are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
