On December 6th, at 10:53 p.m., Dubuque Police responded to a report of several shots fired in the 1300 block of Iowa Street. Officers located shell casings and what appeared to be bullet impact marks on the pavement in front of 1373 Iowa Street.
After reviewing traffic camera footage of the area, it was determined the shots came from the second floor of 1373 Iowa Street. Officers were able to further narrow down the source of the shots to the apartment of weapon permit holder, Derrick D. Mace, 30, of 1373 ½ Iowa Street. No injuries or other property damage were reported and the intended target, if any, remains unknown at this time.
Officers prepared and were granted a search warrant for the residence. Once inside, officers located Mace and two other adults. During the search, officers also located two loaded handguns, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Mace was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, a Class D Felony punishable by a fine between $750 and $7,500, and imprisonment for up to 5 years. Mace is being held in the Dubuque County Jail on a cash bond of $5,000. Additional charges are possible as the investigation progresses.
As with any criminal case, the charges filed are allegations and any suspects are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
