Dubuque Featured at Smart Cities Canada Summit

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Dubuque and the Smarter Sustainable Dubuque initiative will be presented as a case study by Mayor Roy D. Buol at the Smart Cities Canada Summit in Toronto this week. The summit is designed to bring together diverse public and private sector stakeholders to assess utilization of technological innovations to enhance government accessibility and public service delivery.

Buol’s presentation, entitled “Knocking Down Silos: Taking Leadership in Integrating Government Functions and Strengthening Collaboration to Build a Smarter City,” will focus on Dubuque’s experiences with the Smarter Sustainable Dubuque pilot studies related to “smarter” water, electricity and travel in recent years. The session will offer insights on how local governments can integrate all city functions together to eliminate silos and deliver better and smarter government planning. Buol was invited to present at the conference and associated costs will be covered by the summit organizers.

“This is a great opportunity to promote Dubuque and share our experience in combining technology with community engagement to achieve increased integration and efficiency of city services and functions while improving the sustainability of our community,” said Buol. He said his message will emphasize collaboration and encourage others to provide citizens what they need (reliable information specific to them) so they can do what they want, which is save money, conserve resources, and support the local economy and environment.

The Smart Cities Canada Summit is described as Canada's most important forum for senior government executives on a constantly evolving topic and offers attendees opportunities to interact with leaders from around the world. Organizers say it will provide actionable solutions to attendees’ most pressing questions as well as best practices and insights for enhancing accessibility and public service delivery through technological innovations. For more information, visit www.smartcitiescanada.com.

Also in attendance will be representatives from Dubuque-based operations management technology company, Cartegraph. As a silver-level sponsor, summit exhibitor and longtime proponent of sustainability, Cartegraph will demonstrate how its technology helps public and private sector organizations manage operations intelligently and without unnecessary waste —of money, time, resources, and more. To find out more about Cartegraph, visit www.cartegraph.com. Mark Seckman, vice president of national marketing for Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, is joining the Cartegraph representatives at the summit as well.
