Storm Response Update

DUBUQUE, Iowa — As the first major storm of the season continues to impact Dubuque, the City of Dubuque staff continue to monitor conditions and respond accordingly.  Residents who choose to venture out are urged to drive with extreme caution.

The City began snow removal operations last night at 7:30 p.m. with 14 plows.  By 4 a.m., 19 pieces of equipment were operating and three more were dispatched at 7 a.m. for a total of 22.  By 8 a.m., an additional 10 auxiliary plows were dispatched to bring the total number of equipment to 32. Plow operations will continue around the clock until all streets have been cleared for safe travel.

Downtown snow removal operations will begin this evening.  To assist with this process, free parking will be available from 5 p.m. tonight (Thursday, Dec. 20) until 8 a.m. tomorrow (Friday, Dec. 21) and from 5 p.m. Friday (Dec. 21) until 8 a.m. Monday morning, Dec. 24 in the Locust Street Parking Ramp (Eighth & Locust streets), Iowa Street Parking Ramp (Eighth and Iowa streets), and Five Flags Parking Ramp (300 block of Main or Fourth and Iowa streets).

At this time, City staff anticipate implementing the odd/even snow route parking policy for Saturday and Sunday.  A formal declaration of the policy will be issued after the storm passes.
